A recent STEER report found that between 2025-2035 that more than 3.4 million careers would be created/sustained within the autonomous vehicle industry. Understanding the opportunity this would provide for Nuro, I returned to my alma mater, San Jacinto College to establish the state of Texas’ first AV technology certification.
Over the course of a year, I led cross-functional efforts, meeting with Nuro’s Fleet, In-Vehicle, Autonomy, and RobotOps team, we crafted coursework that would allow a student to attain the needed knowledge to succeed in an AV career.
In order to solidify the program I sourced an AV-specific committee with members from TxDOT, The Greater Houston Partnership, and Workforce Solutions in order to certify the program.
This program allows San Jacinto students to learn computer science and automotive technologies while learning hands-on with local Nuro employees. Students in the program are compensated with preferred employment placement upon completion of the program.
